Rebuilding Together coming to Benicia Veterans Hall on Saturday

Feb. 7—Rebuilding Together is coming to Benicia on Saturday to provide Safe at Home Kits to veterans, active military and other military families living in Solano County.

The distribution will take place at the Benicia Veterans Hall at 1150 First St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event comes thanks to grants from Kaiser Permanente, Phillips 66, Valero Benicia Refinery, Wells Fargo and Home Depot.

The home kits include the following:

—10 year smoke/CO Alarm.

—4-in-1 Emergency Earthquake Tool.

—Emergency LED Lantern (Hand Crank and Solar charging) and Cell Phone Charger.

—Fire Suppression Blanket.

—Plug-in night light.

—Kaiser Permanente fleece blanket.

—Emergency whistle.

—Emergency blanket.

—N95 mask.

—Hand sanitizer and hand soap.

—Face masks and shield.

—Glow stick.

—Set of trash bags and emergency information.

Each kit is valued at over $250.

All veteran / military households receiving a Disaster Safe At Home Kit are required to provide a driver's license showing a Solano County address and a military ID / VA Card or DD-214 discharge documentation.

"It is very heartwarming that Rebuilding Together Solano County and the sponsors and other workday donors can join together to make a lasting and visible difference for more than 1,600 low-income veteran, military, and senior homeowners in Solano County," said Elizabeth Hoffman, executive director, Rebuilding Together Solano County. "Wells Fargo has been our backbone during COVID-19, providing RTSC with more than $160,000 to continue our essential programs for low-income veterans during this pandemic."

Since 2009, Rebuilding Together, with more than 12,000 community volunteers, have provided home rehab services to more than 42 low-income homeowners as well as held more than 52 community facility workdays in Solano County.

In addition, Rebuilding Together has installed and/or donated more than 4,810 smoke and 2,900 carbon monoxide alarms in low-income mobile home parks. Also, RTSC has distributed more than 1,800 Safe at Home Kits, while also providing a food pantry for low-income veteran, senior and disabled families in Solano County since 2018 along with 10 mobile sites including low-income mobile home parks, a low-income Vallejo elementary school and organizations serving the disabled.
