The Porta-Thiel is a lightweight, portable Braille printer designed for use by persons who are blind or have low vision. The Porta-Thiel prints on single sheets, continuous forms, plastic, and magazine sheets. It does not use a tractor feeder device to control paper feed. A built-in speech synthesizer informs the user when the unit is out of paper, and data are not lost during the paper resupply process. Dots can be adjusted to any paper weight. This printer embosses six- and eight-dot Braille, and supports eight Braille tables, of which six are installed. Up to eight user-defined Braille character sets may be set up. The Porta-Thiel has serial and parallel ports and may be connected to a computer or a Braille keyboard. OPTIONS: Models are available to produce single-sided or interpoint (double-sided) printing. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): 4 x 10 x 15 inches. WEIGHT: The single-sided model weighs 9.9 pounds and the interpoint model weighs 10 pounds.
