WalkAide is a functional electrical stimulator (FES) designed for use by individuals with foot drop. This device simulates the typical nerve-to-muscle signals in the leg and foot, effectively lifting the toes at the appropriate time. The resulting movement is a smoother, more natural and safer stepping motion, and faster walking for longer distances with less fatigue. This device offers one-handed operation and application and is a small, self-contained unit that attaches to the leg below the knee. Use of the unit does not require orthopedic or special shoes and it may be worn barefoot or with slippers (upon approval of the user's healthcare provider). The unit It consists of a single-channel electrical stimulator, two electrodes, and electrode leads. The included adjustable cuff secures the device to the wearer's leg. POWER: Uses one double-A battery that lasts from one to three weeks. The unit is equipped with an audible low-battery warning, as well as a red low battery light.
