The Voice Synthesizer Module, model V8600A, is a speech synthesizer designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This modular voice synthesizer includes an onboard RC8650 chipset, enabling it to automatically convert plain English text into a high-quality male voice. Applications include voice output for optical character recognition, email, vending and ticketing machines, automatic teller machines (ATM), GPS navigation systems, and dial-up information systems. This synthesizer module is designed to be piggy-backed onto a host PCB, such as a system's controller board, via two 12-pin headers. An eight-bit bidirectional data bus and read/write control pins enable it to be interfaced to virtually any microprocessor bus. Stand-alone applications are also possible using its built-in printer and serial ports, include an asynchronous serial port, a microprocessor bus, and a parallel printer port.
