The Silver Talking Timer, model 8845S, is a voice output clock and timer designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This unit has three independent functions: talking countdown timer, count-up timer, and talking clock. To initiate the countdown and count-up features, the user slides the function switch to the selected function and sets the desired time period, up to 23:59:59. Pressing the Start/Stop button begins the countdown or count-up. The clock announces the time remaining through 0:00:00 during countdown or time elapsed during the count-up. The user can pause and restart the countdown or count-up using the Start/Stop button. At the end of a countdown only, the clock will initiate a count-up and announce elapsed time since reaching 0:00:00. An auto-repeat function enables the user to count down as many times as desired, and a memory function enables storage of the most frequently used countdown times. Six different alarm sounds are provided for different timed activities, including whistling teapot, cuckoo, bell, hoping coil, car horn, and "Di Di." There is a memory function to store one frequently used setting. All setting and function buttons are located and labeled in print on the front of the unit. The hours and minutes are spoken during the setting process. The unit has a large liquid crystal display (LCD). POWER: Uses 2 AG13 alkaline batteries (included).
