Macedonia man has history of mental illness and domestic violence

Akron Beacon Journal - 5/29/2018

May 29--A Macedonia man accused of killing his father and wounding his mother over the Memorial Day weekend has a history of mental illness and domestic violence, court records show.

Michael A. Clark, 28, was arraigned Tuesday in Stow Municipal Court on a charge of first-degree murder.

Authorities have accused Clark of stabbing to death his father, Joe Clark, 62, and wounding his mother, Audrey Roberson, 58.

Macedonia police Lt. Vince Yakopovich declined to say what precipitated the stabbing early Monday, saying authorities are still investigating.

He did not know the nature of the suspect's mental diagnosis.

Court records from a 2014 domestic violence case show that he was living in a group home and was involved with Community Support Services, an Akron-based nonprofit that helps people with mental health and behavioral problems.

The records also show he was taking medications, but do not state which medications or why he was taking them.

Clark had pleaded guilty to the 2014 domestic violence charge in Summit County Common Pleas Court and was sentenced to 24 months probation.

He also was convicted of domestic violence in 2010 and 2016; criminal damaging in 2014; and obstructing official business in 2015.
